What is empathy and why is it good for us?

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou In today’s world of 24-hour news and social media, our lives are exposed to other people, or to juxtapose, their lives are exposed to us! The influence of media is such that it can mispresent a person’s knowledge of specific events. Depending on the angle the media is taking, we are so often influenced to a certain way of thinking which can lead to being judgemental or biased without really knowing the facts. Being emphatic can help us look at all angles and understand another person’s perspective of the situation they are in without judgment. So what is empathy? Empathy in its simplest form is to have a sense and awareness of the emotions of other people. It is the ability to understand what others are feeling and imagine what they may be experiencing. What is Empathy? Empathy is the ability to recognize, understand, and share the thoughts and feelings of another person, animal, or fictional character. Developing empathy is crucial for establishing relationships and behaving compassionately. It involves experiencing another person’s point of view, rather than just one’s own, and enables prosocial or helping behaviors that come from within, rather than being forced.  Developing Empathy Empathy helps us cooperate with others, build friendships, make moral decisions, and intervene when we see others being bullied. Humans begin to show signs of empathy in infancy and the trait develops steadily through  childhood  and  adolescence . Still, most people are likely to feel greater empathy for people like themselves and may feel less empathy for those outside their family, community,  ethnicity , or race. Why is empathy important? Empathy helps us connect and help others, but like other traits, it may have evolved with a selfish motive:  usi

       Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.       Empathy has no script. there is no right way or wrongway tro do it. It's simply listening, holding space withholding judgement , emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message "you're not alone".      It's extremly powerful to hear someone say, "I get you, i understand you.  I see why you feel this way". this kind of empathy disarms us. The great Gift of human  beings is that we have the power of Empathy.   The Nature of Humanity , it's essence , is to feel another's pain as one's own, and to act to take that pain away. There is  nobility in compassion , a beauty in empathy, a grace in forgivness.

  TEACHER: Ufuk TAŞKIRAN An earthquake is a natural disaster that can strike suddenly and leave destruction in its wake. It can be a frightening and traumatic experience for those who experience it. However, in the aftermath of an earthquake, there is an opportunity for people to come together and help each other. This can be a powerful way to cope with the aftermath of the disaster and begin the process of rebuilding. One of the most important aspects of coping with an earthquake is the support of one's community. After an earthquake, people may be without homes, food, water, and other basic necessities. This is where the power of community can make a difference. Neighbors can band together to offer support and resources, helping each other in any way they can. This can include sharing food and water, offering shelter, and providing emotional support. It is different from similar concepts, such as compassion, and involves the expression of our sense of solidarity with others and the ability to put ourselves in their place.      Empathy allows us to build healthy relationships with other people, to help in emergency cases and to do good to those around us. A large part of effective communication consists in our ability to use empathy in relationships with others and understanding the feelings that other people have.      If we can perceive the emotional state and way of thinking of others, we can be able to react appropriately to their needs.
